LP-Bakud wants Danao City placed under Comelec control

LIBERAL Party-Bakud mayoralty candidate Ramon “Nito” Durano III prefers that Danao City be placed under Comelec control to prevent violence just like in previous elections.
Nito, who is the incumbent vice mayor, and running mate Rep. Red Durano (fifth district, Cebu) led the entire slate of LP-Bakud councilors in filing their certificates of candidacy (COC) yesterday at the Comelec Field Office in Danao.
Comelec Election Officer Dominic Ian Marigomen said declaring a place under Comelec Control follows a process.
He said the Comelec and the PNP will assess the peace and order condition in Danao.
“If indeed it is warranted then Comelec would issue an order (for comelec control),” Marigomen told reporters.
Marigomen said Danao City, home to 80,662 voters, has remained peaceful since the start of filing of COCs.
Before filing their COCs, LP-Bakud candidates and supporters clad in yellow attend mass officiated by Bishop Emilio Bataclan in Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Church.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who filed her COC earlier, and board members Jude Sybico and Miguel Magpale, attended the mass with LP gubernatorial candidate Hilario Davide.
Nito, Red, their 10 councilor candidates, and supporters marched to the Comelec office half a kilometer away. They filed their COCs at past 11 a.m. yesterday.
The candidates of Bakud’s rival One Cebu Party filed their COCs last Thursday in
Danao.
Nito is going up against his elder brother Mayor Ramon “Boy Durano Jr., who filed his COC last Oct. 4 with his brother and running mate Jesus “Don” Durano Sr. and their 10 councilor candidates.
After Bakud’s filing yesterday, Nito told reporters in an interview that he does not want the 2001 and 2007 violence to happen again, so he prefers that his city be placed under Comelec control.
