THE Mandaue City Government honored 80 public school teachers who served the city for at least 25 years during the World Teachers’ Day last Friday.
The teachers received a certificate of appreciation in a ceremony held at the conference room of the Department of Education Mandaue City Division.
The honorees will also receive P10,000, which they can claim at the City Treasurer’s Office.
Councilor Demetrio Cortes Jr., chair of the City Council’s committee on education, said the cash incentives are still being processed.
At the awarding ceremony, Mayor Jonas Cortes thanked the teachers for their long years of service and underscored the important role that teachers play in society.
Last July, the City Council approved an ordinance honoring and granting cash incentives to public school teachers who have served for 25 years, during World Teachers’ Day, which is celebrated every Oct. 5.
The cash incentives are taken from the City’s special education fund.
Authored by Councilor Cortes, the ordinance aims to recognize the teachers’ “undying passion.”
