THE Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Lapu-Lapu City yesterday passed a resolution supporting the advocacy of former Barangay Mactan councilor Aileen Radaza, who is running for congresswoman of the City’s lone district.

In an interview, SK Federation President Nicole Balao said Radaza’s advocacy on education and employment will benefit the youth of Lapu-Lapu.

“We the SK endorsed on mass motion the legislative agenda and advocacy of Aileen Radaza which is for youth empowerment and jobs for every family,” Balao said in a text message.

She said the SK Federation is willing to support the legislative agenda of other national candidates “as long as it is aligned with what we believe in and as long as it is consistent with the ideals of our SK Federation.”

The motion was approved by the federation in a special session, which was attended by 27 out of 30 SK chairpersons in the city..

Advocacies

Balao said Radaza came to their session and talked with the SK officials about her advocacies.

Though their resolution is entitled “A resolution supporting the advocacy of Ms. Aileen Radaza for Congresswoman of Lapu-Lapu City,” Balao said they are not endorsing the candidacy of 28-year-old Radaza.

Erwin Andaya of the National Youth Commission reminded SK Federations not to use public funds to endorse a candidate.

“As far as I know, they are free to endorse the candidates whom they think fit their qualities of good leaders. However, they should refrain from using public funds to advance the candidacy of their candidates,” Commissioner Andaya told Sun.Star Cebu in a text message.

Balao said nobody pressured them to pass the resolution.

Radaza, being a youth herself, can relate to the needs of the youth, Balao said.

Radaza will run for congress in place of his father Rep. Arturo Radaza, who will not seek reelection because of health reasons.

In a press conference prior to the filing of her certificate of candidacy, the younger Radaza said that if elected, she will continue the projects started by her father.

She will face Angel Rodriguez of the Liberal Party and independent candidate Remegio Oyao.
