FOR Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, any opinion from former senator John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña will always merit attention as he is a seasoned politician.
She thanked Osmeña for his “fearless forecast” that Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, third district), who is running for governor, will win against his rival candidate
Hilario Davide III of the Liberal Party (LP).
“Well, (former) senator Sonny Osmeña as we all know is a very seasoned politician. He
has seen many political battles and any opinion of his will always merit attention,” the governor told the reporters.
Gwendolyn said they will continue to work very hard and for the next year’s polls.
“That is why I am here to fight this battle with my brother because I believed that the good fight is here in Cebu,” said Gwendolyn, who is also seeking the congressional post to represent Cebu’s third district.
During the 888 News Forum at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, Osmeña revealed that he suggested to LP not to field a candidate to run against Gwendolyn in the third district, except if it would be Provincial Board Member Alex Binghay.
Binghay earlier admitted that there were LP members who asked him to challenge Gwendolyn’s candidacy but he declined, saying that he valued more the friendship he has with the governor and Pablo John.
Binghay also said that he will never win against Gwen.
“Salamat kayo ni (former) senator Sonny. As I said, well, naa man koy kaatbang ( I have an opponent), I will also really work hard in my own political battle in the third district and also run scared and hope to convince the voters in the third district,” she said.
Gwendolyn will face Pinamungajan Mayor Geraldine Yapha for Congress in the third district.
Gwendolyn said the One Cebu candidates will have the full support of the party.
“And as president of One Cebu, I will be giving my unequivocal support to all of our candidates and of course, that includes Toledo City Mayor Rudy (Aurelio Espinosa), Vice Mayor Daydee (Arlene Espinosa-Zambo) and their councilors,” she said.
Osmeña is running for mayor in Toledo against the incumbent Mayor Espinosa.
Osmeña’s runningmate, former congressman Antonio Yapha, will face Zambo, the incumbent vice mayor and daughter of Espinosa.
