Jilted lover succeeds in 2nd suicide try

JOEL Lumangtad, 21, tried to drown himself in the sea when a girl didn’t accept his heart. He survived.

In his second attempt, death met him.

The former construction worker hanged himself from a tree near a seashore in Barangay Arpili, Balamban, Cebu when his girlfriend reportedly broke up with him.

SPO1 Jose Villarino of Balamban Police Station told Sun.Star Cebu that Lumangtad was found by a relative past 6 p.m. already lifeless.

A rope was coiled around Lumangtad’s neck while the other end was tied at the pandan tree.

Before he took his life, he sent text messages to his family and relatives that prompted one of them to check him, the police investigator said.

“They advised him to stop and that was not the solution to his problem but he was already determined,” Villarino said in Cebuano.

Lumangtad, a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño, Toledo City, drove to the area on his motorcycle.

Villarino said the victim was known as an introvert and kept his feelings to himself.

Lumangtad’s girlfriend, on the other hand, visited his family and explained to them that they didn’t split up. They were only having a misunderstanding.

Last week, a man shot himself in the abdomen in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban after his girlfriend reportedly refused to marry him.
