Explain collapse of wall

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama ordered City Engineer Kenneth Carmelita Enriquez to explain why the perimeter wall in a construction site in Barangay Apas collapsed.
“How did it happen? Was there constant inspection?” Rama asked the joint venture project of the Cebu Provincial Government and Filinvest Land Inc. (FLI).
Enriquez was asked to explain as head of the Office of the Building Official (OBO). She also sits as chief of the Department of Engineering and Public Works.
The incident happened early dawn of Sunday and OBO immediately suspended construction work in the area.
The 1.2-hectare lot will be developed as a business process outsourcing (BPO) complex.
Five houses were affected when the wall collapsed. One lost an entire wall while the others only had cracks on the walls and floors.
Rama hopes Megawide Construction Corp., the contractor of the building, will provide the same assistance as the Gaisano family of Taft Property Venture Development Corp. did when a retaining wall of the construction in Barangay Cogon-Pardo collapsed last April.
The site was for the highest residential buildings in Cebu City called Horizons 101.
Taft provided the 10 homeowners, whose houses were damaged by the collapse, free stay at a pension house as well as food.
Megawide has already communicated with the barangay officials so that they can provide assistance to the families.
The collapsed wall was blamed on the heavy rains the past days.
