5.8-magnitude earthquake occurred in Negros Trench, felt mostly in Visayas-A A +A

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake occurred yesterday afternoon in the Negros Trench and was felt in the southern part of Cebu and some parts of Panay, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs 7 Chief Robinson Jorgio said the temblor occurred at 1:21 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers in the Negros Trench near Cauayan, Negros Occidental, which is 176 kilometers from Cebu City.
The quake was felt in Argao, Cebu and in Iloilo and Negros Island.
Phivolcs, in its bulletin, said the quake was tectonic in origin.
The earthquake reportedly caused an intensity 5 tremor in Cauayan, Ilog, Kabankalan, Binalbagan, Hinobaan and Hinigaran in Negros Occidental; and Iloilo City.
It was intensity 5 sigma in Guimaras; Capiz, Alimodian, Iloilo, Anini-y and Antique in Panay; Bacolod City, Bago City and Pontevedra, Negros Occidental; Bayawan, Sta.
Catalina, Tayasan, Pamplona, Valencia, Guimaras and Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.
The tremor was also felt in Dao and Roxas in Capiz; Patnongon, San Jose, Culasi, Sibalom, Pandan, San Remigio, Berbasa, Sebaste, Dao, Tibiao, Valderama and Bugasong in Antique; Masbate City; Lezo and Kalibo, Aklan.
It was also slightly felt in Canlaon City and Murcia in Negros and in Dipolog City.
Phivolcs warned of aftershocks and damage.
