A TAXI driver died after he was stabbed by his 16-year-old passenger in Sitio Caimito, Barangay Basak-San Nicolas, Cebu City last Wednesday night.
Ruben Sacedon Jr., 43, of Barangay Punta Princesa, succumbed to multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body.
An altercation over the fare allegedly prompted John (real name withheld for being a minor) to attack the victim at 9:50 p.m.
The boy flagged down Sacedon in Barangay Mambaling. He asked to be taken to Talisay City, said SPO1 Ruth Violango of Cebu City Police Office’s Homicide Section.
When they arrived, John informed the driver he left his wallet and requested to be taken to Barangay Basak-San Nicolas so he could borrow money from his uncle.
A fight reportedly erupted between the two when John refused to pay the P274 fare.
Joseph Años, who was in the area, said he saw the boy running towards him with the taxi on his tail.
Sacedon signaled Años that the boy had stabbed him, prompting Años to hold John and call the police.
Sacedon was taken to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
The boy, who is detained in the Mambaling Police Station, will face a complaint of homicide.
In another incident, a man drowned while swimming off Barangay Poblacion, Bantayan, Cebu last Wednesday dawn.
Police fished out the body of Marde Albacite, 22, at 5 a.m. He was taken to the district hospital, but he didn’t make it alive.
Albacite was drinking in the public market when he decided to go for a swim around 2:30 a.m., said SPO1 Raul Hernaez.
When Albacite didn’t return an hour later, his friends called the police.
