A MAN who was released from prison last month was shot dead by an unidentified assailant inside his house in Barangay Suba, Cebu City at dawn yesterday.
Raymund Aro, 24, sustained gunshot wounds in the back and right arm.
SPO4 Rey Cuyos of Cebu City Police Office’s Homicide Section said the incident happened around 2 a.m.
According to the victim’s mother Elizabeth, the gunman arrived looking for her son. She told him he wasn’t around, but the gunman forced his way inside and found Aro, who was asleep.
Dead on arrival
The gunman shot Aro, who woke up and was able to run a few meters before slumping into the ground.
Aro was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but he didn’t make it alive.
Cuyos said they have yet to determine the motive for the attack, but it’s possible it has something to do with the victim’s criminal past.
Aro was imprisoned for theft.
“We’ll check his background first,” Cuyos said in Cebuano.
In another incident, a detainee at the Liloan Police Station was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center after he tried to kill himself yesterday morning.
Joe Pabular, who is facing a rape complaint, allegedly kept on banging his head on the concrete wall.
PO3 Jason Gayo of the Liloan Police Station said the incident took place past 8 a.m.
Gayo said Pabular was placed in a secured hallway after he was confined in a separate cell for violent behavior.
‘Depressed’
“Mokalit lang ug siyagit. Ipantok iyang ulo. Na-depress gyud siya (He would shout all of a sudden. Then he’d bang his head on the wall. Apparently, he’s depressed),” Gayo told Sun.Star Cebu.
Pabular was arrested last December after he was caught allegedly raping a neighbor.
It took two policemen, including Gayo, and a traffic enforcer to stop the detainee from killing himself.
“Kusgan kaayo siya (He’s very strong),” Gayo added.
In Barangay Inayagan, Naga City, Adolfo Tapic, 45, was killed after his drinking buddy Jolit Bacarro stabbed him in the abdomen and right arm.
PO3 Antonio Albete of the Naga City Police Station said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. last Friday, while the two men fought over past issues.
Bacarro eluded arrest.
