Palma hopes politicians will visit Cebu for Sto. Niño, not for politics-A A +A

CEBU Archbishop Jose Palma prayed that politicians who will join the Sinulog celebration on Jan. 20 will be here for their devotion to the Sto. Niño and not for politics.
“I know that many politicians have devotion to the Sto. Nino. You are most welcome and as always there is guidance and there are rules and policies governing definitions of where is the realm of politics and where the religion could help in politics in terms of policies,” he said.
The election period officially started yesterday for the May 2013 elections. The election gun ban already took effect. Appointments and transfers of government personnel are now banned as well.
Palma said they welcome everyone to the Sinulog celebration.
“Most of all, we pray that their coming would really give glory to God and they will thank the Lord for the gift of (the) Sto.Nino,” he said.
“Let this be also a way of prayer that every desire to enter into politics should always be guided and I would say inspired by the desire to serve the people in justice, truth and love,” he said.
Feb.12 to May 11 will be the campaign period for those running for national positions, like senators and party-list group representatives.
March 29 to May 11 will be the campaign period for those who will be running for congressman, provincial, city and municipal officials.
