OPERATIVES from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) recovered assorted firearms during an operation early morning yesterday in Danao City.
Newly-installed CIDG7 Eddie Benigay said his men seized four firearms while serving a search warrant issued by local courts against Lolito Mangas, 47, of Sitio Guisok, Barangay Tuburan, Danao City around 6 a.m. yesterday.
Seized from Mangas were a homemade rifle, a pistol Colt defender, a 22 revolver and a 38 pistol revolver.
Also seized were several magazines of 9 mm pistol, live ammunition and 450 rolled sticks believed to be marijuana.
Meanwhile, Mangas denied being involved in gun running, but admitted to Sun.Star Cebu that he allowed strangers to stock their firearms inside his house in exchange for
“Tungod sa kawad-un mao nga misugot ko binlan ug armas bisan illegal kini pero bag-o ra ko ani nga trabaho,” the suspect said.
CIDG 7 said it had seriously carried out PNP’s mandate to intensify its operations against loose firearms, anticipating the surge of gun-related violence before the 2013 elections.
In a phone interview, Benigay said, “I am pushing an aggressive drive to track down illegal gun holders and confiscate loose firearms in partnership with the investigative arm, the Community Investigative Service (CIS).”
Since Benigay took the position on Jan. 11 this year, he vowed to also intensify the campaign in arresting the most wanted persons in the region and also neutralize organized crime groups and criminal gangs.
Benigay said he will begin closely working with the police stations in the city to quietly solve sensational cases that made an impact to the public.
