Dumanjug school will be fixed, Rafi clarifies

THE Gabaldon school building at the Dumanjug Central School in Dumanjug, Cebu will still be repaired, but it may be included in the next batch.
The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) made the clarification after Provincial Board (PB) Member Wilfredo Caminero said the school in the southwestern town has been withdrawn from the list of Gabaldon schools that will be repaired.
The resolution authored by Caminero and co-authored by PB member Peter John Calderon and Miguel Antonio Magpale was amended last Monday replacing the school in Dumanjug with schools from Consolacion.
Suggestion
Anthony Dignadice, executive director of Rafi Education Development Unit, said he suggested to Caminero to replace the school in Dumanjug with the Tayud and Cabangahan Elementary Schools in Consolacion.
Dignadice said Consolacion town has fulfilled the requirements by having a conservation management plan and counterpart funds for the repair.
He said Rafi called the municipal planning and development officer of Dumanjug to follow up on the town’s counterpart budget, which it has yet to produce.
“We just wanted to clear it out… there was no withdrawal,” Dignadice told Sun.Star Cebu.
In December 2011, the Department of Education, Rafi, the Cebu Provincial Government and local government units (LGUs) signed a memorandum of agreement for the repair of 30 Gabaldon school buildings.
Deadline up
Dignadice said the first batch to undergo repair are 10 schools from different LGUs.
The Province and Rafi will shoulder 40 percent of the repair each, while the LGU will come up with the balance.
Dumanjug’s counterpart budget for the repair is P700,000.
The deadline for the town to come up with the funds was last Monday.
Dignadice said they will ask the PB to include the school in Dumanjug in the first batch if the town comes up with the funds.
Meanwhile, he said he is hopeful they can start repair of the second batch at the end of the year.
