THE Commission on Elections needs more than a thousand technicians to operate PCOS machines in Cebu in the May elections.
Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said one Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine will be placed in each clustered precinct.
There are 1,180 voting centers in Cebu. A voting center that has more than five clustered precincts will be assigned two PCOS machine technicians.
Castillano said Comelec offices are preparing a list of possible PCOS technicians to be deployed.
He added that priority will be given to Department of Education (DepEd) personnel.
IT specialists
Arthur Patiga, provincial election assistant, said that if there are not enough DepEd personnel who will serve as PCOS technicians, Comelec will hire information technology specialists from the private sector.
As Castillano turned over the Cebu Provincial Comelec office to lawyer Eddie Aba, he announced that the election office is finalizing the list of candidates in the May elections.
The turnover was witnessed by Comelec 7 Director Temie Lambino.
Castillano has been assigned in Bohol Province. Aba was Negros Oriental provincial election supervisor.
“I will continue what has been done and accomplished by Castillano,” Aba said.
He said his priority list will include visits to Comelec offices in Cebu. He added that he will be in his office only from Monday to Wednesday and will be on field work from Thursday to Saturday.
Lambino said there will be more reshuffling of Comelec officers prior to the elections.
