Insurance for officials, personnel proposed

THE president of Talisay City’s Association of Barangay Councils has proposed an ordinance that will provide medical, burial and financial insurance to all barangay officials and personnel.
Charles Basillote, ex-officio city councilor, said he hopes this will motivate and encourage them to do their jobs.
“As the City Government strives to better carry out its mandated duty, it processes various considerations including the passage of this ordinance which would be an exceptional motivation and encouragement to the barangay officials and personnel to accordingly work in progress with the City Government,” his proposal states.
Deliberation today
Basillote said his proposal aims to help alleviate burdens brought about by sickness, accident and death.
The council will deliberate on his proposal during its regular session today.
Based on provisions of the ordinance, barangay officials and personnel will be granted medical, financial and burial assistance based on certain precedents.
Officials and employees are entitled to receive an amount not exceeding P5,000 in the case of sickness as an outpatient.
They are also entitled to P12,000 in the case of hospitalization due to sickness or accident.
Barangay officials and personnel can get financial assistance corresponding to the amount of medicines prescribed by the physician and medical test and procedures, such as CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging, prostheses, stainless for orthopedics and other incident cost.
Requirements
Burial assistance worth P15,000 will also be provided in cases of death.
To claim the benefits, the barangay officials and personnel will be required to get an employment certification from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
They must also be in service for at least a year, in good standing and with no legal encumbrances to avail themselves of the assistance.
