Son 'tries to stab' pa, gets charged

A FATHER, as portrayed in a story in the Bible, welcomed his prodigal son back to his fold after the latter went astray for a long time.

But in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, a 49-year-old father charged his son with a criminal case after the latter tried to stab him in the chest last March 3.

"My son went wild...after nobody gave him (money) for his vices," said Procolo Navarres in his affidavit.

The Cebu City Prosecutor's Office found enough evidence to indict Navarres's 29-year-old son, Priesten Prolen, with attempted parricide, a violation of the Revised Penal Code.

Bail was set at P24,000 for the accused, whose case was resolved by Assistant Prosecutor Alex Gabud after he opted not to avail of his right to preliminary investigation.

During the incident, Navarres said he tried to calm Priesten, but the latter did not listen.

"Then all of the sudden, I was surprised that my son pulled out a (knife) from his waist...and he tried to stab me," he said.

Attack

But Navarres was not hit, after he parried his son's attack.

He then shouted to his neighbors to call the police.

After the accused fled, Navarres reported the incident to the barangay hall.
