Suspect in 2010 jewelry heist nabbed

AN alleged member of a robbery group from Ozamis City who was behind a pawnshop heist in Cebu City in 2010 was apprehended by p

olice operatives.

The police arrested Felbert Mata, 35, in Mango Ave., Cebu City.

The Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) received a tip last week that Mata reportedly hid in Misamis Oriental.

In coordination with the Misamis Oriental police, Mata was arrested and was forwarded to the IDMB office last Saturday.

During the arrest, a certain Roy Doroño, 49, tried to help Mata by firing an M16 rifle to the arresting police.

No one was injured during the shooting and Doroño was also arrested.

IDMB Chief Alexis Relado said the arrest of Mata stemmed from the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Gilbert Moises of the Regional Trial Court Branch 18.

Mata had two pending cases of RA 8294 and RA 9165.

Seized from his cohort, Doroño, was the M16 rifle loaded with a magazine containing nine live ammunitions.

Relado said Doroño may have been involved in the illegal activities of Mata.

He said Mata was wanted for three years and the operatives have been tracking his whereabouts.

Doroño was under the custody of the Misamis Police while Mata is currently detained at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) stockade.
