CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama said “only God can tell” if former city councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem will be able to campaign for a fresh term in the City Council.

In the Province, Acting Gov. Agnes Magpale said she’s praying for the speedy recovery of former Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV, a a relative and political rival.

Durano is under the One Cebu party running for vice governor against Magpale of the Liberal party. Magpale is Durano’s aunt.

Durano suffered from severe dehydration and was rushed to a hospital in Cebu City on Sunday.

Earlier, Danao City Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr. said his son was confined in a private room, not in intensive care unit.

The elder Durano said doctors advised his son to have a full rest.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has scheduled on March 29 the start of the campaign period for those running for the House of Representatives and positions in the regional, provincial, city and municipal levels.

In his regular news conference yesterday, Rama said he cannot give assurance if Jakosalem will be seen actively on the campaign trail starting March 29.

Rama said his group, Team Rama, will be actively campaigning for Jakosalem’s bid for councilor of the north district.

Asked on the update of Jakosalem’s health, Rama said he doesn’t want to discuss it, adding it is Jakosalem’s wife Sharon and neurosurgeon Wyben Briones who are in better position to discuss the matter.

Months back, Rama said, Jakosalem went back to the hospital for the removal of the plastic tube in his head.

The plastic tube was placed last December because his brain swelled, blocking the flow of fluids.

It was discovered after Jakosalem underwent an emergency operation where a “craniectomy” was performed by his neuro-surgeon.

Jakosalem underwent a craniectomy after he suffered a recurrence of a parasitic infection, which he got from eating undercooked infected food.

After the surgery, Jakosalem’s doctors said he was recovering well.

Meanwhile, Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, third district, Cebu) said Durano is recovering very well.

“I saw him just now and he’s doing very well. We also spoke to his doctor who said he’s recovering very well from his dehydration,” Garcia said in a text message.

Garcia is the running mate of Durano.

Garcia will face LP gubernatorial candidate, Atty. Hilario Davide III.
