THE Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City yesterday was filled with people whose lives were touched by the late Fr. Raul Gallego.
The people came from St. Francis Parish in Balamban town, St. Therese Parish in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City and other parishes where Gallego served.
“Let us send him (Gallego) off with our prayers. Let us also send him off with forgiveness in our hearts. Fr. Raul would need these to enter into the House of the Father,” said Msgr. Jose Dosado, St. Joseph the Patriarch parish priest and a seminary classmate.
The concelebrated requiem mass was led by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma with Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Julito Cortes, Talibon Bishop Christian Noel, retired Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Antonio Rañola and more than 50 priests.
Dosado said He said Gallego at 56 is still too young and he felt they lost a good man.
Gallego was described as a church builder when he was assigned at the Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City; the St. Therese Parish in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City; St. John Sahagun Parish in Toledo City; and lastly at the St.
Francis of Assisi Parish Church in Balamban, Cebu.
Archbishop Palma remembered Gallego’s work as chairman of the committee on venue that prepared and provided the physical requirements for the National Thanksgiving Mass for Pedro Calungsod held at the South Road Properties last November.
