TWO people were shot and injured by suspected robbers, who were caught trying to victimize a pawnshop in Barangay Sabang, Danao City, Cebu yesterday.
Bernie Lawas, 38, was shot in the genitals, while Pia Mares Plaresan, 16, was hit in the foot.
Police arrested Marcelino Quimbo, 30, and Oliver Porla, 22, of Barangay Cogon, Compostela, Cebu in a hot pursuit around 10 a.m.
SPO3 Eldefonso Prucia of the Danao City Police Station said Lawas, a barangay tanod, caught the suspects trying to rob the Henry Lhullier Pawnshop.
Lawas approached them, but the suspects allegedly fired at him.
Plaresan, who was sitting nearby, was hit by a stray bullet.
The victims were rushed to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City.
Local police led by the city’s police chief Supt. Elmer Lim responded to the incident and cornered Quimbo and Porla in the area.
Allegedly recovered from Quimbo was a .45 pistol with live bullets while a .357 revolver and two small packs of suspected shabu were allegedly seized from Porla.
During the interrogation, the suspects denied they were trying to rob the pawnshop.
In a separate incident, police arrested yesterday Eduardo Alicaba Jr., who is the son of a barangay captain, after he was tagged as one of the suspects in the killing of an escort of Toledo City Mayor John Henry Osmeña.
Chief Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes, the city’s police chief, said the arrest warrant against the 39-year-old suspect was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 59 Judge Hermes Montero last Aug. 2 yet.
Bastes said a witness pointed to Alicaba as being involved in the killing of Orencia Embralinag last Feb. 22.
Alicaba went to the police station to clear his name, but he was arrested instead.
He denied involvement, but Bastes said Alicaba is involved in other crimes.
