THE Regional Anti-Illegal Drug Operation Task Group (RAIDSOTG) of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 reportedly monitored eight alleged drug groups in Central Visayas.
Sr. Insp. Henrix Bancoleta of RAIDSOTG said that four groups are in Cebu City, while the other four reportedly operates in Cebu Province.
Bancoleta declined to give further details on the specific areas of the groups until verified. He said part of their investigation is to check whether this group is still active.
He said that from the period of January to July 2013, there was a total of 746 illegal drug cases reported in the region compared to the same period of last year, which was 765 reports.
He said that among the reports received, they arrested 892 persons this year, mostly through buy-bust operations aside from conducting search warrants and saturation drives.
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has the highest number of cases in the region with over 256 cases.
Followed by Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) with 237 cases; Lapu-lapu City Police with 68 cases and Mandaue City Police with 50 cases.
Bancoleta clarified that their operations focus on big-time drug pushers.
“We mainly focus on at least Level 2 drug pushers and not on street pushers because its effect is huge,” said Bancoleta.
He said they are now coordinating with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 and other agencies on the operations of illegal drugs.
He said that in their operation, they mostly confiscated shabu, marijuana and cocaine.
He said their continuous information drive is also a big help in the fight against illegal drugs.
