A NUMBER of policemen, chosen to be recipients of the newly distributed firearms from Camp Crame, failed in the proficiency test.
Earlier, the Camp Crame said it would distribute firearms to some 74,400 policemen who will pass the proficiency exam; 1,310 policemen will come from Central Visayas.
So far, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) and the Mandaue City Police were among the stations who took the exams first.
In CCPO, there were 302 policemen set to take the exam.
Out of 73 who took the exam ahead, 14 failed.
In Mandaue City, 32 passed and 24 failed, while there are 102 policemen who will still take the exam.
The PRO 7 clarified that some policemen failed because they were not used to the firearm used during the proficiency exam, which is a Glock 39 pistol.
“Even if that policeman failed, that doesn’t mean that they don’t know how to shoot.
They were trained. Nabag-ohan lang jud sila (They just weren’t used to it),” explained Supt. Audie Villacin of the PRO 7.
Chief Insp. Maribel Getigan, assigned in the Logistics Division of the PRO 7, said they had chosen the recipients of the firearms from the component cities in Central Visayas.
In Cebu, there are 293 policemen from Lapu-lapu City who will take the examination; 22 policemen from Carcar City; 40 from Naga City; 37 in Bogo City; 38 in Talisay City; and 28 in Danao City.
Getigan said the PO3s, PO2s and PO1s are the ones who will receive the Glock 39 firearm.
Getigan said they have not yet received the firearms since these are still being stenciled in Camp Crame.
The examination, which is mostly shooting exercises, will be done in batches. The firearms intended supposedly for those who failed in the test will be given to other policemen instead.
