FOUR persons, including a pregnant woman, were injured after a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old girl rammed into the glass panel of a fastfood chain yesterday morning.
Nicole Iris Gamban was supposed to park outside the Jollibee branch on Osmeña Blvd., just a block away from the Capitol building, at around 10 a.m.
But instead of stepping on the brakes, she mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to ram the glass wall of the restaurant.
The front portion of the vehicle, an automatic 2004 Subaru wagon, crashed inside the eatery.
Four diners seated near the glass wall inside Jollibee sustained bruises after broken
glass hit them.
Jonimae Salaga, 30, who is pregnant, and Roque Romeron, 33, suffered bruises on the neck, while Myrna Dy, 60, and her son Francis, 27, had injuries on their arms.
The four were rushed to Cebu Doctors Hospital located a few meters away from Jollibee.
According to SPO1 Armando Banoc of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom), Gamban and her mother were supposed to eat inside Jollibee.
Gamban, who is from Lapu-lapu City, was driving along Osmena Blvd. She turned right toward the fast food chain and wanted to park on a vacant parking space.
She had wanted to park closer to Jollibee. She even moved forward but as she was about to stop, she stepped on the gas pedal by mistake. The vehicle was automatic, Banoc said.
Loren Into, the store manager of Jollibee, said the accident happened so fast. She said they did not notice that Gamban was about to park outside and they were shocked when the vehicle rammed into the glass wall.
Aside from the glass panel, the aircon inside Jollibee was also damaged when the
vehicle hit it too.
Into said the first thing they did was to check the condition of their customers to see who was hurt.
Banoc said they are still waiting to hear from Jollibee and those injured if they will file complaints against Gamban, who promised to shoulder the victims’ hospital bills.
