A DRIVER of a motorcycle-for-hire was gunned down by two unidentified assailants in Barangay Poblacion Ward I, Minglanilla, Cebu late Friday night.
Roldan Caparas, 32, died from a gunshot wound in his face.
PO1 Wilmer Campo of the Minglanilla Police Station said the incident took place past 11 p.m. after the victim had just driven a passenger.
Caparas was sitting on a chair near, where most drivers parked their vehicles, when the culprits on board a black motorcycle arrived.
The passenger pulled out a gun and shot Caparas.
The culprits allegedly concealed their faces with shirts. They fled toward Talisay City area. The black motorcycle they were riding had no plate number.
Caparas was rushed to a hospital, but he died on the way there.
Police recovered an empty shell that was believed to be from a .45 pistol at the crime scene.
PO2 Vincent Heramil, one of the investigators, said they are looking into a love triangle as the motive of the attack.
The victim’s live-in partner, Elsa, and his sister told police that Caparas received a death threat sent through his mobile phone last month but he didn’t report it to authorities.
“Niingon ra siya nga kung magkinaunsa, ipa-blotter nila (He just told his family that if something happened to him, have it blottered,” the police officer said.
Caparas’s family believed that someone was jealous that the victim had a regular female passenger.
Heramil said this information will be verified.
They would also look into the other possible angles that resulted in the killing of Caparas.
Police said Caparas did not have any derogatory record.
