Rama went there yesterday on the request of the Transportation Science Society of the Philippines (TSSP) to support its bid for the country, and particularly Cebu City, to host the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (Easts) conference, an international gathering.
“The purpose of your visit to Taipei will be to personally show support in the TSSP hosting the 11th Easts international conference in Cebu in 2015,” said TSSP president Hussein Lidasan
The event seeks to “gather best practices and good experiences” of transportation experts in the eastern Asia.
According to the Easts website, the event aims to address issues on how to establish an integrated transport system.
Tomorrow, the mayor will attend a board meeting of the Easts.
After the activity in Taipei, Rama will head to Cebu City’s sister city Kaohsiung, which is also in Taiwan.
He was invited by Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu to be one of the panelists in the 2013 Asia Pacific Cities Summit from Sept. 9 to 11.
In his invitation letter to Rama, Chu said the conference seeks to provide “a dynamic regional forum for the exchange of cutting-edge solutions for urban decision-making and business development.”
Rama is expected to be back in Cebu City on Sept. 12.
