POLICE arrested an alleged drug pusher and confiscated some P300,000 worth of shabu during a buy-bust in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City on Friday night.
Seized from Mark Clint Mabaga were five large packs of shabu, said Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, head of the City Intelligence Branch (CIB).
Mabaga is allegedly a level-two drug pusher who can sell at least 250 grams of shabu per week.
The operation took place inside a compound on President Roxas St., where an undercover police officer bought P25,000 worth of shabu from Mabaga, who had rented a house inside.
When the transaction was done, Mabaga was immediately arrested. Police recovered four other large packs of shabu when they frisked him.
Santander, when interviewed by Sun.Star Cebu, said their operation came after they received a tip on Mabaga’s allegedly illegal activity.
They conducted a one-week surveillance and planned the operation after confirming the information.
The other tenants were shocked when they learned Mabaga has been selling drugs, Santander said.
He said Mabaga is the son of a certain Nognog Mabaga, who had been arrested before for the same case and is now detained in the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City.
When interviewed by police, the suspect admitted his role in the illegal drug trade, but denied selling shabu.
“Tagakanan ra kuno siya (He claims he’s just a drop-off point),” Santander said.
“Molikay dayon siya basta pangutan-on about sa iyang papa (He evades questions about his father),” he added.
Complaints for allegedly violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Mabaga on Tuesday before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
Under Section 5 of RA 9165, the penalty of imprisonment ranging from 12 years and one day to 20 years and a fine ranging from P100,000 to P500,000 shall be imposed upon any person, who, unless authorized by law, shall “sell, trade, administer, dispense, deliver, give away to another, distribute, dispatch in transit or transport any controlled precursor and essential chemical, or shall act as a broker in such transactions.”
