A SUSPECTED gun-for-hire was arrested by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) last Monday in Barangay San Roque, Cebu City.
Ybo Lastimosa, 38, was allegedly involved in a series of shooting incidents in Talisay City that killed two persons early this year.
Allegedly seized from his possession were a hand grenade, a .38 revolver with six live bullets, a .45 pistol with two magazines and drug paraphernalia.
The arrest warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 12 Judge Estela Singco, after Lastimosa was charged with murder for allegedly killing Ildefonso Vega Jr. on Nov. 17, 2012 in Talisay City.
Lastimosa was also allegedly behind the death of a certain Roy Bas early this year. He was also allegedly responsible for the shooting of Barangay San Roque tanod Serafin Britania last Feb. 10.
Lastimosa, in an interview with the media yesterday, admitted he shot Britania, but he denied killing Vega and Bas.
He also admitted being a drug user, but he denied owning the firearms seized from him.
CCPO Director Noli Romana said the joint operation was led by Chief Insp. Wildemar Tiu of the Waterfront Police Station and Chief Insp. Aileen Recla of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch.
Romana said they received a tip that Lastimosa, who is a resident of Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, was hiding in Barangay San Roque, which led to their operation.
He said Lastimosa reportedly fired once at the arresting officers, who also fired a warning shot, until he was cornered. This forced him to surrender.
Romana said Lastimosa might also be involved in the killing of other known drug personalities in Talisay and Cebu City.
“We reached out to the public na baka may maka-identify sa kaniya (maybe one of them can identify Lastimosa) and can pinpoint other cases against him,” Romana said.
Romana said it was the operatives’ third attempt to arrest Lastimosa since January.
The CCPO director said Lastimosa reportedly works alone and is hired by different drug personalities in Metro Cebu.
Lastimosa is detained at the CCPO stockade.
