A POLICE officer has renewed public trust in the police force by returning a bag containing almost P100,000 in cash, which he found in a cab Friday afternoon.
SPO2 Isagani Ceniza, a jail guard assigned to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), showed to the media yesterday the bag owned by a certain Erlinda Fleming, which also contained identification cards.
Ceniza said he was not tempted to keep it and had every intention to return it to its owner.
He reported the incident to the police station for the owner to easily trace the bag.
CCPO Director Noli Romana commended Ceniza’s honesty, saying that there are more cops like Ceniza.
“Marami pang mga pulis na kagaya niya (Ceniza) at paparamihin pa namin (They are many like him and we will have more like him),” said Romana.
Ceniza said that on Friday afternoon, he boarded a taxi together with his wife in front of his house in Barangay Quiot, Cebu City.
He said he saw a belt bag at the passenger’s seat inside the cab.
The driver of the Tetsoknee taxi, Noel Erana, said he did not own the bag.
Ceniza said he introduced himself to Erana and asked to be allowed to open the bag.
Ceniza found 20 US$100 bills, four $10 bills, 6 $5 bills; and 23 $1 bills; P8,500 cash; two gold earrings; a ring; identification cards and Fleming’s passport.
The dollar bills found inside the bag is equivalent to almost P90,000.
The taxi driver told Ceniza that Fleming boarded and disembarked in Sitio Opra, Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.
Ceniza said Fleming can go to the CCPO headquarters in Camp Sotero Cabahug, Gorordo Ave., Cebu City to retrieve her belongings.
