Mayor deems suspension ‘unnecessary’-A A +A

SUSPENDED Aloguinsan Mayor Cynthia Moreno said her suspension is meant to be preventive, but she does not consider it necessary as both parties in the case have submitted all evidence.
The Sandiganbayan ordered Moreno and seven other Aloguinsan officials suspended pendente lite (while awaiting litigation) for 90 days for the 2007 purchase of construction materials allegedly without bidding.
Moreno said, though, she will abide with the order of the Sandiganbayan.
“I’ve served one day so 89 more days to go,” she said in jest yesterday, a day after the Department of Interior and Local Government served the suspension order.
Moreno’s husband, Vice Mayor Augustus, will be acting mayor.
Cynthia said the Municipal Hall will function as before, although there are some difficulties because some department heads are among the seven officials who are suspended.
The Sandiganbayan also suspended Pepito Manguilimotan, municipal registrar and concurrent bids and awards committee (BAC) chairman; Nonela Villegas, municipal budget officer; Marilyn Flordeliza, municipal agricultural officer; John Lim, municipal assessor; Orven Nengasca, municipal engineer and property officer; and utility workers Emilia Luz Celis and Gertrudes Ababon, BAC members.
“This is just a temporary setback. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. So, I just hope for the best, although I have prepared for the worst,” Moreno said.
