A WOMAN was allegedly shot by her estranged husband while on her way home from a benefit dance in Sitio Buyong, Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday dawn.
Police investigators said Hilda Malingin, 42, a resident of Sitio Buyong, was walking outside the disco area when her husband, Edgar, 44, shot her from behind.
Hilda was hit in her right lower leg.
Edgar fled with the firearm while Hilda was rushed by her daughter to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital. She was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
PO2 Winston Ybañez said jealousy may have driven the suspect to shoot the victim, who was reportedly seen dancing with a man.
Hilda, who is unemployed, told police investigators that she noticed her husband watching her while she was on the dancefloor with her friends.
Ybañez said the couple has been separated for some time.
Edgar, a diveshop employee and a resident of Sitio Kalinga, Barangay Soong, reportedly went to the disco with his live-in partner.
The police are still searching for him.
