FOREIGN and local tourists can now access more information about cultural and heritage sites in Argao, Cebu after the implementation of the first digital tourism program in the southern town.
The program was launched last Friday in partnership with the Provincial Government, Smart Communications, Innopub Media and the Municipality of Argao.
Tourists can install the e-guidebooks application on their Android phones to get more information about Argao.
They can also scan the Quick Response (QR) codes, which were installed at the Cabecera de Argao.
Innopub Media co-founder Max Limpag said this will “provide tourists with timely, accurate and relevant information.”
Limpag said printed books are expensive, adding that fewer people read books nowadays.
He said tourists can visit the site “argao.myguide.ph” through their mobile phones.
The QR code scanner can be downloaded for free in a smart phone’s application market.
Gov. Hilario Davide III, who attended the event, said the project will make historical and cultural information very accessible and interactive, as well as boost a town’s tourism potential.
“For me, this is a perfect tool to promote tourism not only here in Argao but (in) the entire Province through the digital tourism project,” he said.
He said he will inform the Provincial Board about the project so it can be implemented in other towns at no cost to the Province.
Ramon Isberto, Smart public affairs head, said this is an excellent time to implement digital tourism in Cebu, which will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in 2015 and the World Eucharistic Congress in 2016.
Mayor Edsel Galleos was grateful that the program was first implemented in Argao.
