AN 11-YEAR-OLD German girl drowned in a swimming pool in a resort in Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu last Thursday afternoon.
Vanessa Unger went to the swimming pool after eating lunch with her parents around 10 a.m.
At 3 p.m., Joseph Pangatongan, 30, the resort’s lifeguard, noticed Unger was no longer moving in the water, said SPO1 Alan Pantaleon of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section.
Pangatongan brought Unger to the side of the pool. Another lifeguard and the resort’s nurse came and tried to resuscitate Unger but she did not respond. They then brought her to the Mactan Doctor’s Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sun.Star Cebu is withholding the name of the resort until the latter issues a statement on the incident.
Pantaleon said Unger and her parents went jet skiing before the drowning incident.
The girl’s parents have reportedly decided not to subject the girl’s body to an
autopsy. Police said the parents have not expressed interest to file a complaint against the resort.
The girl’s mother left the country last Thursday while the father is set to leave today with the girl’s remains.
