Rama wants autonomy for CCMC-A A +A

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama wants the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) to be autonomous. That way, the CCMC can decide what is good for the hospital.
“I want doctors to be managers,” Rama said.
The CCMC celebrated its 52nd founding anniversary yesterday.
Even though he wants autonomy for CCMC, he assured hospital management that the City Government will continue to support it.
“The City Hall through the council should fight for their (CCMC) budget,” the mayor said.
Rama pointed out that this was the reason he appointed a separate accountant (Arlene Rentusa) and treasurer (Emma Villarete) for the hospital last June.
He also said he will not prevent other politicians from helping the hospital as long as doctors there run the facility professionally.
“Everybody who wants to help is all welcome, even politicians like us can take part,” he said.
The mayor believes doctors and other administrative staff of CCMC are in a better position to determine what the hospital needs.
“Mag-brainstorming sila sa ilang gikinahanglan, iduso nila sa Syudad apan di sab sila magpataka og pangayo (They should hold a brainstorming session and come up with what they need from the City but these must be justifiable),” Rama said.
Yesterday, the CCMC inaugurated the newly renovated Animal Bite Treatment Center, Laboratory, City Hospitalization and Medicine Program office and the chief of hospital’s office.
Rama thanked Dr. Gloria Duterte, CCMC chief, for her continuing effort to improve hospital services.
Duterte, for her part, assured the public that they will continue to provide good service.
The mayor said he hopes the expansion plan for the facility will push through.
“It will be a big help for we are still continuing our effort to acquire more machines to cater to all the needs of our indigents,” Duterte said.
She said they might propose a bigger budget next year so their plans to upgrade hospital services can be realized.
