A 16-YEAR-OLD high school student killed herself after quarreling with her sister over a phone in Barangay Bato, Toledo City, Cebu last Saturday.
Sheila (not her real name) was found by her older sister hanging inside their room at 10 a.m. She had tied a curtain around her neck.
PO3 Jehazel Huyo-a, of Toledo City Police Station, said Sheila had an argument with her sister at 9:30 a.m. after the latter hid her phone.
“Gibinuangan ra kuno siya (Her sister was just teasing her),” he said.
After their argument, Sheila went to the room and killed herself. The girls’ mother told police Sheila had been observed to be unhappy the past days.
“Murag naa kuno’y gitaguan nga problema (She seemed to be keeping something to herself),” Huyo-a said.
Police learned that Sheila had a boyfriend, whom they are now looking for help in the investigation.
Also last Saturday, an octogenarian committed suicide over a fight with his wife in Barangay Kawasan, Aloguinsan.
The 80-year-old was found by his daughter hanging on a tree at past 9 p.m. He used a nylon rope.
PO3 Albert Triplit, of Aloguinsan Police Station, said the victim asked for permission from his wife to watch a dance. The wife refused because it was late. The man felt slighted and left.
The man’s daughter Avelina searched for her father outside and found him hanging on a tree.
Triplit said the man always sulked when he and his wife fought.
Another suicide took place in the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), where an inmate was found hanging inside his detention cell yesterday.
CPDRC warden Romeo Manansala said the detainee, who was in his 40s and hailed from Yati, Liloan, made a cord out of a sack of rice and tied this around his neck and to the frame of a double-decked bed.
He was facing a drug-related case at the time of his death.
A jail guard took the man to the hospital. But the doctor declared him dead on arrival.
