SK head to create another youth council-A A +A

CEBU City Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president John Philip Po II wants to create a youth development council in the barangays.
This, as City celebrates Children’s Month 2013.
“The council will take care of all the youth development programs in the barangays,” said Po.
With the postponement of the SK polls, Po said there should still be a body to continue catering to the youth sector.
“The youth sector should be represented,” Po said.
Po said the SK has already a good structure.
“Instead of abolishing it, it would be better if they will just strengthen it,” Po said.
He said there should be a reform in the system.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said there should be a committee to be created to take charge of the concerns of the youth.
“In the meantime that there is no SK member in the council, I would propose that there should be a youth council,” Labella said.
Labella said that this council will bring the concerns of the youth to the barangay and the City.
Labella wants to delegate more function to Cebu City Youth Development Council (CCYDC).
Asked what he will do after his term, Po said he will still serve the youth through the council he is planning to create.
He is hopeful that activities and programs of the SK will be pursued by other agencies in the City.
Yesterday, Po and Labella attended the opening ceremony of Children’s Month held at Children’s Park in Plaza Independencia.
More than 3,000 youths from the barangays in Cebu City attended the activity.
During his speech, Po said this year’s activity is timely because of the postponement of the SK polls.
The Children’s Month celebration will include discussions on problems that are affecting the children, like trafficking, child labor and child abuse.
