POLICE arrested a barangay councilor for allegedly holding captive his 10-year-old daughter inside a school in Barangay Sacsac, Dalaguete, Cebu yesterday afternoon.
Charlie Gamboa, 33, reportedly held his daughter by the hair while armed with a knife at 3:30 p.m., alarming teachers, students and parents.
Insp. Rico Emperwa, the town’s police chief, said they responded to the alarm after a teacher called them for help.
Police found Gamboa in the waiting shed holding his daughter, who was crying. Police were able to convince Gamboa to surrender.
“Nipatoo ra man sad siya,” Emperwa said.
But it took police time to convince Gamboa to surrender, as the latter insisted he did the right thing, Emperwa said.
“Ready gihapon mi kay iya man gitiunan iyang anak ug basin mapugos mi pagpusil (We were ready),” Emperwa said.
Police investigation showed the barangay official reportedly fought with his wife after he had some money missing. This got him angry.
Gamboa went to his daughter’s school and took her.
Emperwa said the suspect had to pay for his motorcycle-for-hire, his main source of livelihood.
Police said Gamboa allegedly used illegal drugs, which resulted in his frequent fights with his wife.
The school faculty will file a complaint of trespassing against Gamboa while separate complaints will be filed against him for violating the election gun ban and for child abuse.
SPO1 Veronico Centeno of the Dalaguete Police Station said Gamboa’s wife went to the police yesterday to report that she was mauled by the suspect.
“Gidapatan daw siya. Maayo na lang kay nakadagan siya (Good thing she was able to run),” he said.
Centeno said the couple had been a subject of several alarms in the past because of their fights.
