What’s up Pussycats?-A A +A
Saturday, October 26, 2013
THE Pussycats World Clubland is now operating under a new name: Kittens.
As a result of the name change, the bar may have avoided being closed.
The resolution recommending its closure, filed by the Cebu City Inter-Agency Council (CCIACAT), was passed last Oct. 9 yet.
But before the order could be signed by Mayor Michael Rama, the 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Bohol and Cebu last Oct. 15.
Councilor Lea Japson, chairperson of the committee on women and children and CCIACAT vice chairperson, said she was not aware of the name change. In fact, she said, she only learned about it during the interview.
Japson said she would have to call for another CCIACAT meeting to tackle this new development.
However, she said that it’ll be difficult to implement the order now considering the bar has a new name.
Had the City padlocked then Pussycats, its owners would have been forced to operate another type of business if it reopened since once a business is ordered closed it cannot reopen on the same business terms.
CCIACAT’s resolution sought the cancellation of business licenses of Pussycats and Club Temptation.
The subsequent closure order was recommended on the basis of the bars’ alleged violation of Republic Act 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.
Club Temptation it is
The resolution was carried unanimously.
Meanwhile, Club Temptation has kept its name.
Last Sept. 21, the two bars were subjects of a raid conducted by the Regional Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force of the Regional Intelligence Division, the International Justice Mission and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Some 43 women were “rescued” during the raid.
Trafficking cases have been filed against the owners and managers of the two bars.
Although no minors were found during the raid, some members of CCIACAT believe otherwise.
The case didn’t focus on age but rather on the alleged “offering (of) girls for sexual exploitation to their clients/customers in exchange for money.”
