THREE brothers of Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante will run for barangay captain in their respective villages, and Vice Mayor Danilo Diamante assured that not one will run for an ABC post as they are against political dynasty.
The vice mayor identified them as Wilfredo Diamante, third among eight siblings, who is barangay captain in Cogon and running unopposed; Ruben Diamante, fourth among siblings and running unopposed in Barangay Alegria as Barangay Captain Rommel Tundag is not running and the youngest of the eight, Rodelo, is running against incumbent Colonia Barangay Captain Macario Batal.
In neighboring Asturias town, two Poblacion barangay captain candidates are running since the incumbent Barangay Captain Romulo Torreon is not running.
The daughter of Asturias Vice Mayor Joel Dumdum, Carmela, is running against Vicky Aliviado, who is reportedly backed by Mayor Allan Adlawan.
After they filed their certificate of candidacy for the May 13 election, the mayor and vice mayor parted ways, though they are partymates.
Poblacion Barangay Captain Dana Andrew Dumdum, the vice mayor’s son, was elected as town councilor, and Barangay First Councilor Torreon took his place.
The Tuburan vice mayor said that Mayor Democrito, the eldest, and the family are against a political dynasty. He said even in 2010, when Rodelo was the incumbent barangay captain in Cabangcalan and Wilfredo in Cogon, where the mayor lives, they did not aspire to be the president of the Association of Barangay Council.
Rodelo transferred to Colonia and is now running against the incumbent barangay captain.
Ruben, a former chef of an overseas ship who retired and runs a restaurant in Davao, is new in the political arena.
The vice mayor said that six Alegria barangay councilors asked the mayor to allow Ruben to run for their barangay captain, and the mayor said it is up to Ruben.
Ruben finally gave in and the seventh councilor, who had plans of running, decided to
give in to make their group solid, said the vice mayor.
Tuburan Assistant Municipal Election Officer Jong Maglasang said the town has 40,803 voters registered in 54 barangays.
Maglasang said they are focusing on Barangay Sumon, as it has history of violence. But the vice mayor is hopeful that today’s election will be a peaceful one.
The vice mayor said that Sumon Barangay Captain Norma Burlas is no longer interested to seek reelection. He said both candidates Epifania Pelegrino and Pingping Pugoy are both supportive of the mayor’s administration.
