A 22-YEAR-OLD man was killed and three people were hurt when an unknown gunman started shooting at them inside a minibus in Barangay Balud, San Fernando, Cebu around noon yesterday.
Ariel Gomez of Sitio Magtalisay, Barangay Balud died on the spot after he sustained a gunshot wound in the head.
The injured were identified as Rose Marie Navares, 43, of Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City; Jomar Secretaria of Sitio Magtipasi, Barangay Balud; and Gentor Coronado, 39, of Barangay Sangat, San Fernando.
Based on local police’s initial investigation, the victims were on their way to Cebu City from Sibonga onboard an FM Liners minibus.
But when the bus got to Sitio Crossing in Barangay Balud, the gunman pulled out a 9mm pistol and started shooting.
Robert Delfin, 24, the minibus’ conductor, said it looked like the gunman was targeting Gomez.
Delfin said Gomez flagged the minibus in Sitio Magtalisay, while the gunman got on board in Sitio Acacia. Both sitios are in Barangay Balud.
He said the gunman was wearing a black jacket and had long black hair.
Delfin said he was standing near the door, when the shooting started.
He and the rest of the passengers immediately got out of the minibus.
Delfin said the gunman tried to shoot two other victims, but one of them was able to get away.
The gunman fled on foot and was gone when police arrived.
The injured passengers were taken to the Carcar City District Hospital, but Coronado and Secretaria were transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
Insp. Sara Recla, San Fernando Police Station chief, said some believed the incident stemmed from a personal grudge, but they are not discounting that it was election-related.
Recla told reporters that Gomez had just finished voting when the shooting took place.
The victim was reportedly related to a barangay official.
In Lapu-Lapu City, a 30-year-old woman was shot dead inside an Internet cafe in Barangay Pajo at dawn yesterday.
The gunman entered the Casper Vibes past 1 a.m. He went directly to the cubicle where Shara Samama, a resident of Sitio Paradise, was using a computer.
He shot her several times and fled on a motorcycle, said PO3 Luisito Ernie of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section.
Samama, who suffered gunshot wounds in the left chest, was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.
Homicide investigators recovered three empty shells and a deformed slug from a. 45 pistol in the crime scene.
Police are eying personal grudge as the motive for the shooting.
PO3 Ernie said Sumama, who was jobless, went to the Gun-ob Police Station five days earlier to report that she received a death threat from a certain Nazel for revealing information about Nazel’s illegal activities to authorities.
Witnesses said the gunman, who wore a full-faced helmet and a gray jacket, had a medium build.
