CEBU -- A jampacked jeep plunged into a cliff in Barangay Lugo, Borbon, Cebu on Thursday afternoon, wounding 10 people on board.
Inspector Glen Devocion, the town’s police chief, said the victims were on their way to attend a cockfight when the accident happened at 1 p.m. in Sitio Mahayahay.
The victims were identified as Julani Baguio, 30; Gerlon Booc, 23; Raniel Booc, 25; William Arnol, 40; Arnel Booc, 18; Fely Booc, 44; Freddie Feliano, 31; Wenceslao Armero, 66; Selvirio Grañanola, 23; and Hilario Mabawag, legal age.
Six of them were brought to Cebu City after sustaining injuries and bone fractures.
Devocion told Sun.Star Cebu that the jeep driven by Baguio came from Barangay Poblacion and was heading towards Barangay Bagacay.
While traversing the national highway, Baguio told police he swerved at a blind curve to avoid hitting another vehicle on the opposite lane.
Baguio stepped on the brakes of the blue jeep-type vehicle, but it failed.
He lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree before falling off a cliff.
Devocion said the jeep was overloaded, which could have made it hard for the driver to control the vehicle.
Devocion said Baguio wasn’t able to present a license or the vehicle’s registration after he reportedly lost his wallet. (Sun.Star Cebu)
