ARGAO Mayor Edsel Galeos is eyeing a one-hectare lot in Barangay Bogo as site for a hospital that will be funded by the Department of Health (DOH).
Last Thursday, Galeos asked Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III for help in acquiring the lot.
He said the project has to be implemented soon, otherwise DOH will take back the P70 million allotted for the construction of the facility.
“The DOH ordered the funds reverted if bidding is not done this year,” the mayor said.
Davide, a resident of Argao, said Galeos asked Capitol to help fund the acquisition of the lot.
Galeos said that based on the zonal value of the appraisal committee, the lot is priced at P596 per square meter.
He said the funding from DOH is for the construction of the hospital alone, and does not cover site development and other expenses.
The mayor hopes the construction of the new hospital will begin in January or February next year.
The facility can also accommodate patients from the neighboring towns of Dalaguete and Alcoy.
Galeos said the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital, located in Barangay Poblacion, can only accommodate 25 beds.
The site of the future hospital in Barangay Bogo is two to three kilometers from the town center.
Galeos said that when the new hospital is completed, the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital, located in the Argao heritage zone, will be vacated.
