A 44-YEAR-OLD man surrendered to police after allegedly stabbing four persons in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City yesterday dawn.
Police said Rony Villaflores, 44, who later tested positive for liquor, went berserk inside the Del Castillo Compound on A.P. Cortes St., Tipolo past 2 a.m.
PO1 Fredelo Quezon of the Subangdaku Police Station said Villaflores was walking past a group of residents having a drinking session when one of them, a woman named Nina Rose Escalante, 31, said, “Naa na ang bayot (Here comes the homosexual).”
Villaflores, a married man, confronted Escalante and an argument ensued between them.
He later went to his house and got a knife. He returned outside and stabbed the neighbors who tried to calm him down.
Joy Avila, 34; Catherine Branzuela, 44; Michale Dane Ordaniza, 26; and Rosendo Avila, 65 suffered stab wounds in the different parts of their bodies.
They were brought to the Vicente Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City, where they are now recuperating.
His mother, Lydia Villaflores, 60, who also tried to calm him down, sustained a minor laceration in her forehead.
Villaflores surrendered to the Mabolo Police Station and was later turned over to the Subangdaku Police Station.
Police brought him to the Mandaue City Medical Center, where his graze wounds were treated.
He was also subjected to a liquor test.
Quezon said Villaflores, who ran for councilor of Tipolo in last month’s elections and lost, had previous conflicts with Escalante.
Police and the victims’ relatives are preparing criminal charges against Villaflores, who was detained at the Subangdaku Police Station.
