A GRENADE exploded inside a car repair shop, damaging several vehicles, in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City at dawn yesterday.
No one was reported injured.
Police investigators said two motorcycle-riding men were seen throwing the grenade into the Brabu Auto Repair Shop on Sacris Road Ext. around 1 a.m.
The shop is owned by Melecio Anoos, 51, of Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City, police said.
Senior Insp. Rio Ipong, deputy chief of the City Intelligence Branch of the Mandaue City Police Office, said three witnesses saw the unidentified men throw the grenade, which exploded under a vehicle, some 15 meters away.
SPO1 Remegio Arciaga, of the Subangdaku Police Station, said the shop’s caretaker, Ramil Mamac, 29, was sitting some five meters away from where the grenade exploded.
The explosion spared Mamac as the parked vehicles shielded him.
Personnel from the Special Weapons and Tactics recovered fragments of the grenade, including its safety lever.
Investigators said personal grudge may the motive of the attack.
They are eyeing a customer whose vehicle Amoos reportedly refused to repair last month, as a possible suspect.
Last month, unidentified assailants also reportedly strafed the shop.
