POLICE are looking into the possibility that work might have something to do with the killing of a real estate broker in front of a bank in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City on Monday morning.
Cebu City Intelligence Branch (CIB) Chief Romeo Santander said Edgar Cañete, who worked as a real estate broker for a private cemetery, received threats days before the shooting.
“Naay mora’g conflict sa commission nga iyang nakuha as real estate broker. But we still have to dig deeper in our investigation,” Santander said.
Days before the shooting, Cañete also reportedly received a text message threatening him. Santander said the text message that Cañete received told the victim to be careful in withdrawing money from the bank or something might happen to him.
Injured in the shooting was Cañete’s uncle, Rudy Capito, 63.
Santander said Capito saw the gunman, who fired at them at close range.
Capito was hit in the leg.
Santander said they will still have to talk to Capito in their investigation since he is still in the hospital.
Santander said they will also look check nearby establishments if they have security cameras for footages.
Cañete had reportedly just withdrawn almost P500,000 in the bank in Barangay Banilad last Monday morning at the time of the incident.
He was with Capito when an unidentified man wearing camouflage shorts approached him and asked if he was Edgar.
When the victim said yes, the gunman shot Cañete several times.
The gunman fled after the incident.
