LAPU-LAPU City Jail personnel are searching for an inmate who escaped from the facility at dawn yesterday.
Chief Insp. Renante Rubio, the jail warden, said Rex Mata, 26, destroyed a portion of the ceiling and used a rope made of sacks to get down to the ground outside the facility around 2 a.m.
Rubio, in a text message, said the guard-on-duty is under investigation.
Mata, also known as Parekoy and Rex Tagalog, has been in and out jail, said Rubio.
He was sent back to the jail last Sept. 24 after being charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
Rubio said all jail personnel in the male warden have been sent to the field to search for Mata, who was sighted in a barangay in Lapu-Lapu City yesterday afternoon.
Rubio has asked for help from the police to locate the escapee.
Located in Barangay Soong, the Lapu-Lapu City Jail has more than 900 inmates.
In 2010, two inmates also escaped from the City Jail using scaffolding to climb through the wall.
