THE local Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Danao City will have to wait for word from its Manila office on the case involving eight councilors who have been ordered to vacate their posts pending the filing of their statements of contributions and expenditures (Soce).
Danao City Election Officer Ian Maringomen said they will write to Comelec Commissioner Christian Robert Lim, chairman of the campaign finance steering committee, regarding the matter.
City Councilors Jed Almendras, John Cane, Cynthia Duterte, Jove Enriquez, Celso Meca, Roland Reyes, Jojo Roble, and Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, an ex-officio Provincial Board member are among those who have been ordered to vacate their posts for reportedly failing to submit their Soces.
Maringomen said the eight have submitted their Soces and have even secured certificates of compliance from the Department of Interior and Local Government, a requirement before they could assume post.
However, Marigomen is not discounting the possibility that the campaign finance steering committee may need to check whether the Soces of these councilors were properly complied with.
Provincial Election officer Ferdinand Gujilde, for his part, it could be possible that Comelec Manila requires a written communication for local election officers about the transmittal of the Soces.
“Maybe the requirements (they) submitted was enough at our level but then Manila saw deficiencies in the documents submitted,” he said.Joyse E. Almojallas, USJ-R Mass Com Intern
