Thursday, December 19, 2013
THE body of a dolphin was found dead in the shores of Barangay Bangcogon, Oslob town Tuesday afternoon.
The female dolphin, measuring 2.5 meters long, was wounded in the head, slightly near its eyes.
Leonito Soriano, a resident who first saw the dolphin, immediately reported the matter to Bangcogon Barangay Hall.
Barangay Captain Ana Luna went to the area to check the report. She also called the local police and representatives from the Municipal Government to go to the area.
Police theorize that the dolphin might have been shot because of its wound, which was about three to four centimeters in diameter.
PO1 Kenneth Anthony Sabate of Oslob Police Station said they believe the dolphin died few hours before it was found because it did not show any signs of decomposition yet.
After the police conducted its initial investigation, the dolphin was buried near the area where it was found. (Rhey Anne G. Alvarico, USJ-R Mass Com Intern)
