Buzz: Don’t you know me?’

-A A +A

Friday, December 20, 2013

THE latest buzzword (or phrase) is not new. It’s the standard response of somebody rich and powerful is offended by the action of lesser mortals.

It has come up again in the social media because it was allegedly used by the Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay (he son of the vice president) in accosting the security guards of a plush subdivision who barred his four-car convoy from passing through a gate which wasn’t the authorized exit point.

“Wa ka ka-ila nako?” is generally deemed an arrogant line from someone against whom a valid rule or law is enforced.

Was the mayor kidding? He would’ve been kidding had he proceeded, shifting to a friendlytone, with “OK, let’s get acquainted and be friends.”
