FIVE men, including a suspected big-time drug pusher, spent their New Year’s Eve at a detention cell in Camp Sotero Cabahug after they were arrested by police in a joint buy-bust in Sitio Zapatera, Barangay Luz, Cebu City before dawn yesterday.
Seized from Alfredo Gegrimosa Jr., 36, were four big packs, one medium pack and 49 small packs of suspected shabu worth P50,000.
Gegrimosa who was considered by police as a level two drug pusher was the subject of the operation.
Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, head of the City Intelligence Branch (CIB), said Gegrimosa can dispose at least 100 grams of shabu per week.
The operation was initiated by the operatives of CIB and the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (CAIDSOTG) at 12:30 a.m.
A police poseur-buyer bought a medium pack of shabu worth P2,500 from Gegrimosa.
After allegedly handing over the shabu, Gegrimosa was arrested.
When police conducted an inspection inside Gegrimosa’s house, four men were caught having a pot session that led to their arrest.
They were identified as Lito Ventura, 36; Victory Paul Sanchez, 29; Alberto Villaflores, 42; and Edison Panatian, 40.
Santander said the four men were neighbors of Gegrimosa and allegedly served as the latter’s errand boys.
During a tactical interview, Gegrimosa told police he gets his supply from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
The suspect has a cousin detained in the jail facility who allegedly served as Gegrimosa’s contact.
“Giangkon niya nga siya nalang ang nagpadayon sa pagpamaligya human nadakpan iyang ig-agaw (He admitted to have continued the illegal drug trading after his cousin was arrested),” Santander told Sun.Star Cebu.
Gegrimosa’s arrest came after some residents of Barangay Luz complained of his alleged illegal activity.
Apart from Barangay Luz, Gegrimosa also allegedly peddled drugs in Barangay Mabolo, Santander said.
A complaint for violation of Article 2, Sections 5 (sale of dangerous drugs) and 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against Gegrimosa.
The four other men will face a complaint for violation of Article 2, Section 12 (possession of equipment, instrument, apparatus and other paraphernalia for dangerous drugs).
