CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama wants to check with the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) regarding a drainage improvement project implemented in Barangay Sawang Calero.
The City Council said it was implemented without its go-ahead.
Rama said the DEPW keeps track of projects and can validate all the documents pertaining to the one in Sawang Calero.
The mayor hopes the council will understand that the project needed to be implemented.
He said drainage in areas like Sawang Calero is necessary.
He said the barangay experiences flooding during heavy downpours and typhoons.
Rama said he is positive the DEPW can ratify the project, which was completed last Nov. 24.
“What is important is Sawang was able to benefit from the drainage,” he said.
No notice to proceed
The council also questioned the City’s payment of US$56,000 for the freight cost of donated life-support equipment from the US. The amount was charged to its Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. funds.
Work on the P3.7-million drainage improvement project began last April 23.
The council found out that the project was awarded last Feb. 21, but there was no notice to proceed attached to the documentation of the project.
But there were two certificates of availability of funds signed by City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas for two projects.
