PEOPLE who will be caught drunk and who cause trouble in the streets during the Sinulog grand parade on Sunday will be arrested, a police official said.

Supt. Arnel Banzon, Deputy City Director for Administration of the Cebu City Police Office, said policy is based on a city ordinance imposing a liquor ban during the Sinulog.

“Of course, there will be drinking because it’s a feast, but I hope no one will cause trouble because he’s drunk. That will be the time we will arrest someone because of drunkenness,” clarified Banzon.

Some 2,155 policemen will be deployed by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) this Sunday.

Banzon said the huge crowd is one of biggest challenges during the Sinulog.

Because of this, additional force will be augmented on Sunday. Some 3,000 Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC) and 755 criminology students will be assigned for crowd control.

“If ever they (ROTC and criminology students) see commotion in their assigned areas, they may do actions within the bounds of the law,” said Banzon.

Three hundred policemen from the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will also be deployed in the different entry and exit points in Cebu.

Checkpoints will also be conducted to prevent criminal elements from entering the city.

Banzon said the outskirts, which are not covered by the parade, will be manned by officers from the different police stations.

Mobile patrols will roam around these areas, said Banzon.

He said the presence of pickpockets and snatchers becomes rampant during the festivities, that is why they are intensifying police presence.

“Ever since naa man gyud nang pickpocket, but even before, the figures we received are not really alarming,” added Banzon.

With this, the police official wants to remind the public to be extra careful.

Refrain from wearing jewelry and hold of your wallet and mobile phones when you go to congested areas, said Banzon.
